Twelve kilometers away from Thiva lies Melissochorior Baltsa village.

According to various possible interpretations, the word Baltsa refers to either a swampy village or an apiary. The area where the village stands today was first inhabited during the last period of the Frankish occupation by people who lived in the ancient town of Plataea.
In ancient times, Mardonius had camped in this area with his army before he was completely defeated in the Battle of Plataea. The form it has taken in recent years is in line with that of the other villages. A small central square with neat little shops and local meat and hangouts for young people.
