Mayor of Thiva: “Tourism is for us the driver towards sustainable development of our region. The tourism promotion programme of our Municipality, for which I wholeheartedly praise the Chairman and the Members of the Tourism Committee, works in support of the major infrastructure projects we have implemented, are implementing or have planned to implement, with the funding we have acquired, such as the Old Hospital of Thiva, that will become a Tourist Information Centre for Cultural Heritage, the restoration of the surroundings of the Fountain of Oedipus in Agioi Theodoroi Square of Thiva, the construction of a municipal swimming pool in Thiva, the construction of a hang gliding centre in Plataies, the ramps for the disabled on our beaches, the construction of a new farmer’s market and a new flea market area in Thiva, the upgrading of squares and sports areas, the construction of playgrounds, the paving of roads – municipal roads in every community of our municipality, the improvements of buildings to create places for cultural activities and many more”.

Chairman of the Tourism Committee: “Through the programme of actions we mainly aim to promote and highlight the tourism product of the entire Kallikratis Municipality, in order to attract visitors. To this end, we utilise modern information and communication technologies, advertising, social media, the power of image and, of course, partnerships with representatives of the travel industry and the associations of our region. Let me point out that in 2018 we launched visitthiva.gr, a modern and attractive website, a useful tool that we believe meets the informative needs of prospective tourists. In 2019 we keep addingf material and upgrading it. We have also participated in international and domestic trade fairs either with the Region of Central Greece or with our own pavilion, we reprinted tourist brochures and collaborated with various tourism stakeholders. I must admit that we have considerable help from local institutions and businesses, whose actions we advertise and promote. Our big goal is to highlight the uniqueness of our region. We want Thiva to become a destination and we believe that we will make it happen. We proceed with small steady steps by showcasing the Archaeological Museum of Thiva, the monuments, the quality products, the alternative forms of tourism that are developed in our region, our wonderful beaches, forests and lakes. We do need cooperation, we need the local community to be our ally. A special thanks to all the members of the Tourism Committee, the Municipal Council, the Greek National Tourism Organization, the institutions, the associations and of course the Mayor of Thiva and the Financial Service for providing the funding.”
