The beautiful beach owes its name to the small chapel of Agios Nikolaos, which is located to the northern part of the beach, about two kilometres away.

In recent years, after the construction of the motorway from Domvrena, Agios Nikolaos has become a popular destination, though it has not lost its scenic character. In the old days, the people of Domvrena used to “camp” there, mainly in huts made of thatch and pistacia. The traditional huts no longer exist, but visitors will enjoy delicious fish by the sea.
